Scouting:
The Children of Abraham Foundation, Inc. presently sponsors three (3) units within Central Florida Council, Cub Scout Pack 641, Boy Scout Troop 641 and Venture Crew 641. Each one of these units has a specific board member as a Chartered Organization Representative that helps guide the unit committees. Each member spends approximately 12 hours per month in helping guide the units. Funding at this time has the units self-funding themselves through popcorn sales held each year from August to November, as well as Camp Cards from March through April.
Education and Leadership:
The Children of Abraham Foundation, Inc.’s Board of Directors encourages volunteers and includes all of the Board of Directors to be Merit Badge Counselors to our sponsored units as well as to all other scouting units who request our mentoring in teaching many of the 126 Merit Badges to these young men and women.
We take advantage of programming that BSA Central Florida Council is providing to the youth and working with the council in volunteering on many other areas within the organization such as training other adults and youth, guiding different programs for the council and districts within the council such as Popcorn Sales, Religious Emblems, Merit Badge Counseling, and Eagle Scout Mentoring.
The Children of Abraham Foundation board members give their time to other areas in the community in helping promote other causes such as riding or walking for MS, Cancer Awareness, Arthritis, and many other programs where we encourage the youth to participate and become beneficial partners with causes that need their help.
We are involved in maintaining the culture within our religions that promote diversity and respect to each other. We volunteer ourselves and our youths in helping different events during the year with Martin Luther King Holiday, Yom Ha’Atzmaut (Jewish Independence Day), Holocaust Center activities and celebrating Scout Sunday and Scout Sabbath for all youth and their religions.
Planned Activities:
Scouting:
The Children of Abraham Foundation, Inc. presently sponsors two (2) units within Central Florida Council, Cub Scout Pack 641 and Boy Scout Troop 641. and Venture Crew 641. We are looking to expand that number of units across BSA Central Florida Council, which incorporates six (6) counties as there is a need for other units to be established. Each one of these units will have a specific board member, or one of our Adult Volunteers as a Chartered Organization Representative that helps guide the unit committees. Each member will spend approximately 12 hours per month in helping guide the units. Funding at this time has the units self-funding themselves through popcorn sales held each year from August to November, as well as Camp Cards from March through April.
Our scouting units need additional equipment, other sources of funding for their camping programs, teaching/leadership programs and facilities in which to hold their meetings and store equipment. The Children of Abraham Foundation, Inc. plans to help these units in fundraising by other means, such as having a Night of Comedy show for the public where all funds raised will go directly to programming for these units, special event Carnival which will provide entertainment for two (2) weeks to the local community and have a outreach portion where our volunteers and ambassador youth will encourage other youth to join the scouting movement.
In addition to this type of funding activities, the board of directors will be actively looking for sponsors and/or donations of rental facilities for a minimum fee for our units to hold their meetings and store their trailers, equipment and other personal items that they have acquired over the years. The board of directors will also take under consideration and upon proper taxing authorities recommendations donations of property for the exclusive use of our youth programs, as long as they follow the rules and regulations as how it will be used exclusively for the charitable purposes within the meaning of Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code and not for personal gain.
Youth Leadership Ambassador Program:
The Children of Abraham Foundation, Inc. seeks opportunities for community outreach through our youth leadership ambassador program which involves sending our ambassador youth to fulfill our mission of raising awareness and funds for other disadvantage youth in our large community where they don’t have the opportunity to join a leadership group due to the need of funds and peer leadership. We will be utilizing a variety of means such as being part of other charity events where our adult leaders as well as youth leaders participate as volunteers and providing information for other youth to join or start a youth program where the opportunity for them has not been available. Such events that take place where we can have a better response from the public would be at the Winter Park Art Festival, Fiesta in the Park, Arts and Crafts Shows; Community sponsored events such as the Jewish Community Center, Martin Luther King Parade events and other similar events which receive elaborate media and public attention.
We will also be involved in raising awareness and funding through specially sponsored carnivals, weekend concerts and comedy shows where our Youth Ambassadors can show other youth programs from Boy Scouts of America in Scouting, BBYO (Jewish Youth Program), Hillel (Jewish Young Adult College Program) and other youth outreach programs that will give them opportunities for reaching goals for their future.
Program for Volunteers:
The Children of Abraham Foundation, Inc. at times, per the discretion of the Board of Directors, we may provide internships or volunteer opportunities to young adults, college students and older adults which will provide opportunities for involvement in outreach activities and programs in order to have a greater impact for change. One of the activities that volunteers may be involved in First Aid Training (assisting in teaching to youths), being counselors to other youth in teaching courses for life experiences (computer training, home repair, sports, use of a checkbook, personal management, safety). Such activities will always be free of charge to participants and will not include compensation to the volunteers.
Multimedia:
The Children of Abraham Foundation, Inc. has set its goal to bring awareness from every medium possible and this does not exclude documentaries and photos of our activities, projects and programs. By documenting and reporting our efforts by use of the internet, newspapers, television/cable media, radio and community social networks we intend to broaden our outreach. These multimedia features will be recorded by our volunteers during the aforementioned activities and will be available to the public.
